Chapter 93

The Morning Brightnessal-Ḍuḥā ( الضحى )

»The surah that opens with the oath of the Divine One swearing by the The Morning Brightness and the night when all falls still. It is named after “the morning brightness” (ḍūḥā), mentioned in verse 1. The surah is an address to the Prophet Muḥammad, to reassure him, when he had not received revelation for some time, that his Lord had not forsaken him.«

بِسمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحمٰنِ الرَّحيمِ

وَالضُّحىٰ

This sūrah of 11 verses was revealed in Makkah following a relatively long period in which Revelation did not come. It takes its name from the word ad-duhā (the forenoon) in the first verse. It consoles the Messenger, upon him be peace and blessings, and mentions some of God’s favors upon him.
By the forenoon,
