40 Preface وَلَقَد أَتَوا عَلَى القَريَةِ الَّتي أُمطِرَت مَطَرَ السَّوءِ ۚ أَفَلَم يَكونوا يَرَونَها ۚ بَل كانوا لا يَرجونَ نُشورًاYusuf AliAnd the (Unbelievers) must indeed have passed by the town on which was rained1 a shower of evil: did they not then see it (with their own eyes)? But they fear not the Resurrection.This refers to Lot’s story and the destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah, the wicked cities of the plain near the Dead Sea, by a shower of brimstone.
