72 Preface وَوَهَبنا لَهُ إِسحاقَ وَيَعقوبَ نافِلَةً ۖ وَكُلًّا جَعَلنا صالِحينَAli Quli QaraiAnd We gave him Isaac, and Jacob as well for a grandson,1 and each of them We made righteous. In a tradition of al-Imam al-Ṣādiq (ʿa), nāfilatan here is interpreted as meaning walad al-walad nāfilatan. Cf. Maʿānī al-akhbār, p. 225.
